Comet Swarm

This is a digital hybrid of two different versions of the same painting. Originally it showed the comets minus the limb of the huge planet in the background. For some reason I later painted out the wispy comets, leaving only the two solid ones, and added the background planet to represent chunks of the disrupted Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 as they approached their collision with Jupiter. I eventually missed the wispy streamers of the other comets, but there was no bringing them back!

I eventually realized I could use a photograph of the old version to make a new version which preserves (I hope) the best features of both. Buy a print here.
